Woodpeckers and other secretive creatures

At the end of May, many mountain woodpeckers feed their young in the breeding holes and are particularly active then. Black, gray, white-backed and three-toed woodpeckers also announce their presence through calls and feeding tracks. Mighty beech trees serve as breeding grounds for the black woodpecker and many new tenants use abandoned woodpecker holes as nests. Spruce trees infested with bark beetles attract three-toed woodpeckers. This tour offers insights into the currently ongoing forest bird mapping in the national park around the Mayralm excursion area.

Requirements: The guided tours on the fixed dates are reserved for private individuals. We ask groups of 10 people or more, companies, schools or other organizations to contact the respective visitor center.
