10th World Cup in Hinterstoder

28/02 - 02.03.2020 | Shift and top success

Due to the intense rain and snowfall during the night from Thursday to Friday, the Alpine combination had to be canceled and postponed on Friday. Unfortunately, all efforts by the 150 slope workers, who worked from 4:00 a.m. to prepare the slope for racing, were in vain. The weekend was extended to Monday and so all three races could be carried out.

It couldn't have been better to write the script for the Super G: Vincent Kriechmayr won his home race in Hinterstoder in Upper Austria. The 28-year-old made optimal use of his number one and celebrated his fifth World Cup victory. Mauro Caviezel from Switzerland came in second, just 5 hundredths behind.

In the third and last alpine combination this winter, the Frenchman Alexis Pinurault secured the small crystal ball with a win. The 28-year-old, who was second after the Super-G, made optimal use of his good start number in slalom and won with a 0.99 second lead over the half-time leader Mauro Caviezel from Switzerland. Third place went to the leader of the overall World Cup Aleksander Aamodt Kilde (NOR), 1.25 seconds behind.

The best ÖSV athlete was Matthias Mayer, who finished sixth. After the Super-G, the Carinthian was also in sixth place and then showed a solid performance in slalom, where he drove for the tenth time. In the end, the winner was 2.07 seconds short.

As in the combination on the previous day, Alexis Pinturault from France was in a class of its own in giant slalom. The 28-year-old won by 45 hundredths ahead of Filip Zubcic (CRO), celebrating his 29th World Cup victory and also taking the lead in the overall World Cup. Henrik Kristoffersen from Norway came third (+0.72 seconds).

Best Austrian was Manuel Feller in eleventh place. The Tyrolean, who was in 17th place after the first run, achieved an increase in performance in the second round and was able to make up six places. 11th place also means the best season result for the 27-year-old, who had to deal with a herniated disc this winter.
