The Kalkalpen National Park is the most important national forest park in the Alps. With its designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is part of a Europe-wide project to protect the last remaining primeval beech forests. These ancient forests with their diversity are a natural treasure. Primeval forest species such as the Alpine longhorn beetle and white-backed woodpecker find a home here.
The Bodinggraben is considered the most beautiful valley head in the Kalkalpen National Park. We hike through the wild forests of the former hunting grounds of Count Lamberg and learn how the valley got its name.
