Just south of Roßleithen, about 20 minutes walk from the scythe factory, springs the Pießling in one of the largest karst springs in the Eastern Alps - the Pießling torrent!
The Pießling-Ursprung natural monument can be admired from the viewing platform.
In summer, an average of 2,000 liters of water per second flow from the siphon cave. During the snow melt or after storms, there are even 7,000 liters and more. The Pießling origin could thus meet the daily water needs of 700,000 people. The underground drainage system from which the karst spring fed, consists of larger cavities and collecting veins that ramify in an extensive tubular braid. In this precipitation seep on the plateaus of Warscheneck on an area of 94 km ² in countless columns, joints and crevices of limestone until they appear at the foot of the mountain in this major source back to the surface. From about 32 meters deep, shimmering in all shades of blue and green-source-pot the water masses flowing with great force upward. This makes cave diving very dangerous when Pießling origin and after two deaths it was now strictly prohibited. The karst spring Pießling origin is generally accessible, not accessible with snow. In summer the Pießling origin - except on the last few meters - even with the stroller accessible.The Pießling origin is easily accessible!
