In the faithfully reconstructed "Knappenhaus vom Blahberg" in the Reichraminger Hintergebirge, you will experience a journey through time through the mining history of the region in the middle of the village of Unterlaussa. Iron, coal, gagat and bauxite were the raw materials that were mined in the region.
With the guest card "In total more" you get a 20% discount on one entry and with the Pyhrn-Priel Card free entry.
On the occasion of the Upper Austrian provincial exhibition "Land der Hämmer - Heimat Eisenwurzen" in 1998, a faithful replica of the "Blahberg Knappenhaus" was built in the village of Unterlaussa and made accessible to the public as a museum. For more than 20 years, this museum has been showing people about mining in the Eisenwurzen region. But you will also find objects from mining areas in Europe up to 4000 years old.
The mining of the raw materials occurring in the Eisenwurzen, such as Gagat (this is a type of coal that was used to produce jewelry in the Stone Age), hard coal, iron stone and bauxite (the only mining area in Austria) which is used as a raw material for aluminum production, forms of course the main theme of the exhibition. Experience authentic stories from former miners and residents of the Weißwasser mining settlement in a video and see original tools, the so-called tough, of the miners.
Through a replica of a section of the mine tunnel, the path leads back "into the open", where you can find out information about the longest material cable car in Central Europe at the time. In addition, the topic of aluminum, from production to the end product, is dealt with here.
Part of the collection of the closed "Ennsmuseum Kastenreith" is located on the upper floor of the one-story building. Here the visitor is taken back in time in the Eisenwurzen region. Objects from the Stone Age to the present await those interested and you can get information about agriculture, forestry, charcoal burning, rafting, the iron industry, trade and handicrafts from earlier times.
