Would you like a special wilderness experience? Hike on alpine climbs with cable car ascent and descent on foot Difficulty: easy to medium, surefootedness necessary Walking time about 2.5 hours Meeting point: valley station of the Wurzeralm funicular | Route guidance: Ascent to the Frauenkar, walk back to the funicular and then descent into the valley Participants: At least 7 / maximum 16 people | Adults € 18 / children & teenagers € 8 | | Information & registration Martha Riess, T +43 664 3969645

After the ascent with the funicular, we hike over the water-rich Wurzeralm, which is surrounded by bare, steeply rising mountain peaks. Many streams feed the Teichl, which rises here at 1420 meters. At Oberen Filzmoos, a living raised bog, we take the chair lift up to the Frauenkar. The landscape changes within minutes: From lush green pastures we get into a barren world of rock and stone. This mountain world is a breathtaking backdrop with the steep, banked rock walls that surround a narrow trough valley, as well as Karen fields, rubble cones and sinkholes that open their eerie gorge into the interior of the mountain. And at our feet is the unbelievably wide Warscheneck plateau, on which, despite its waterlessness, an extensive larch and pine forest extends and above the tree line an almost impenetrable mountain thicket. We sit down for a few minutes and listen to the singing of this high alpine mountain landscape below the Warscheneck summit.

In the alpine lawn mats we perceive a variety of flowers that adorn the short mountain summer: alpine rush, saxifrage, Petergstamm, gentians. Even the rare, intensely vanilla-smelling cabbage roast can be found here. Our tour becomes an exciting journey of discovery full of unexpected impressions: We climb over cart fields and examine the different shapes such as grooved and ridge carts with their sharp edges, read figures and faces from boulders, watch how a chamois boldly climbs over narrow rock bands from a narrow one Crevice grows Dark stonecrop, which stores water in its leaves, an Apollo butterfly juggles through the air, the perfectly camouflaged ptarmigan is barely visible from the rocky background, a jay busily collects pine nuts for his "pantry", and when the alpine rush blooms, it changes gray stone desert in a pink-red sea of flowers. Each of these creatures has developed its own strategies to survive long cold winters and short hot summers. But how will climate change affect them?
