Warscheneck Nord
Hinterstoder, Oberösterreich, Österreich
The Warscheneck mountain range is one of the last untouched karst landscapes in Europe. The northern section of this unique mountain landscape is protected by the "Warscheneck Nord" nature reserve.
In the mountain forests, which have not been used commercially since the establishment of the nature reserve, an extraordinary fauna and flora has been preserved. Dead wood left in the forest is a cradle for new life. At its various altitudes, the Warscheneck serves as a breeding ground and habitat for many bird species. From hazel grouse and capercaillie to black grouse and ptarmigan, the Warscheneck is home to a large number of grouse. The three-toed woodpecker as well as the pygmy owl and the great horned owl have been recorded. And the king of the skies, the golden eagle, also circles above the rocky mountains. Hikers and mountaineers can discover the Warscheneck and its breathtakingly beautiful landscape on marked trails.
